Current Windows on supported hardware. Includes drivers, updates, activation.

Windows 10 → 11 upgrades

Windows 10 is past end of support and no longer gets security updates, so we don't install it. We move you safely to Windows 11 instead.

macOS (current)

Tahoe (macOS 26), Sequoia, Sonoma, Intel or Apple Silicon, with proper recovery setup.

macOS (older)

Reinstalling an older macOS on Intel Macs that don't support current. We have the installers.

Apple Silicon

M1, M2, M3, M4 Mac setup. Migration assistant or true fresh install, your choice.

BootCamp (Intel Mac)

Windows-on-Intel-Mac via BootCamp, for the Intel Macs that still support it.

Linux (some distros)

Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!_OS, others, if you want to switch or dual-boot.

How it works

The fear with a reinstall is losing your stuff. We back up first, do the reinstall second, restore third. Your files, photos, and settings are carried over where possible.

Bring it in

Walk into our Elk Grove shop. Tell us what's going on and what you'd like preserved (files, photos, browser bookmarks, app settings, etc.).

Back up everything

Before we touch the OS, we make a full backup of your data: documents, photos, downloads, settings. Nothing gets wiped until your data is safe.

Fresh install + drivers

Clean OS install, latest updates, all drivers, license activation. We do this part properly so it boots fast and behaves.

Restore + verify

Your files restored, browser bookmarks back, key apps reinstalled. Then we run PC-Doctor hardware diagnostics on the whole machine and print the report for your records, proof that everything was tested before you take it home.

What an OS reinstall costs.

OS reinstall pricing depends on whether your data needs to be backed up and restored (it almost always does), how many apps need to be reinstalled, and whether the drive needs anything done before the install (replacement, repartitioning, etc.).

Every repair is quoted after inspection, before any work starts. If during the diagnostic we find that a reinstall isn’t actually the right fix, we’ll say so.

If you also need a fresh OS license (Windows, macOS upgrade purchase), that’s a separate line item we’ll quote up front.

Will I lose my files?
We back up your data before we touch the OS, then restore documents, photos, downloads and browser bookmarks after the reinstall. The only time data can’t come back is if the drive itself has failed beyond recovery, and we’d tell you that up front.
How long does a reinstall take?
Ask about turnaround when you check in; it depends on the repair and parts availability. Larger systems with lots of apps to reinstall take longer, and we tell you the realistic timeline before we start.
Will my apps need to be reinstalled?
Yes, that’s the nature of an OS reinstall. We can reinstall your key apps (Office, Adobe, accounting software, browsers) as part of the service if you have your licenses. Save your license keys and account logins.
Can you install Windows 10 instead of Windows 11?
No. Windows 10 reached end of support and no longer receives security updates, so we stay away from installing it. An unsupported OS leaves you exposed to exactly the kinds of infections we spend the rest of our week cleaning up. We recommend Windows 11 and can handle the upgrade, including checking whether your hardware supports it. If you have legacy software that genuinely requires Windows 10, talk to us about safer ways to run it.
Do I need to buy a Windows or macOS license?
If your computer already has a valid Windows/macOS license (most do), we’ll reuse it. If you’re upgrading from an older version, you may need to purchase the upgrade, we’ll tell you before doing so.
Can you reinstall macOS on an old Mac?
Yes, we have macOS installers for older versions that Apple no longer offers downloads for. If your Mac is too old to run current macOS, we install the highest version it supports.
Will it be faster after the reinstall?
Almost always, yes, especially if the machine was slow because of years of accumulated cruft. The hardware itself is the upper limit, but a fresh OS often makes an older machine feel new again.
How do I know everything actually works afterward?
After every fresh install, and as part of diagnosis, we run PC-Doctor hardware diagnostics across the machine: drive, memory, CPU, and the rest. We print the report for your records, so you leave with documented proof that everything was tested and passed.
What if I have a failed drive? Can you reinstall OS on a new one?
Yes, we can install a new SSD and put a fresh OS on it. This is one of the best upgrades you can do on an older machine. See our hardware upgrades page.
Can you wipe my computer before I sell it?
Yes. We do a secure wipe and reinstall a clean OS so the buyer gets a fresh machine and your data is properly removed. This is the right way to do it, not just “empty the recycle bin.”
